TOPIC: On This Day -- Computer Technology History...
The Apple Computer Company began shipping the Apple iMac on August 15, 1998. Aesthetically, the iMac was dramatically different from any other mainstream computer -- especially the PC clone. The first generation iMac was made of translucent blue plastic. It was egg-shaped -- built around a 15 inch CRT display.
FWIW, the iMac project was started one day after Steve Jobs returned as CEO in 1997. Jobs came out of early retirement to help the beleaguered company return from obscurity. The new computer style & idea was a huge success! The Apply iMac was the top selling computer model for most of 1998.
